2016 Teams Announced

Myrtle Ridge Northern Hawks have completed trials for the 2016 state league season and are  ready to start pre-season training Monday. After a two week selection process Hawks have named both Opens and 19& Under Teams.

The Opens will retain the services of 2015 ANL squad member and 2015 Hawks Opens Captain Ashton Whiley in the midcourt. Whiley will be an integral part of a creative and lighting quick centre court unit with 2015 21U player  Kate von Stieglitz set to continue her time in Opens alongside Sarah Lyons giving stability and experience to the lineup. 2015 19U players Jennifer Guy and Nikea Lapham are welcome additions to the team and will inject speed and agility to keep the ball moving in attack.

Ashlea Mawer and 2015 ANL/21 Under player Zoe Claridge will again create a strong presence in the goal circle, with Lauren Muralt making her long awaited return to the club from study on the mainland to round out a formidable shooting trio.

The defence end was void of any returning 2015 Open players as the club welcomed the return of Gemma Poke from a successful year with Burnie and new recruit from Devonport Kate Hyland team up with 2015 19U player Brianna Bird to take on the challenges that will face Hawks in the defence circle.

Hawks Open Coach Ruth Tuohy is pleased with the team and is already making plans to get the team up and running as we enter the all important preparation phase of the new season.

Hawks 19U Team has retained five members from 2015 goalies Sophie Broadhurst, Jamie Easther, Abbie Ferrall, wing attack Chelsea Mawer and defender Matilda Boutcher. This core group of players will give the team a solid foundation and some experience to the new recruits.

Lace McHugh had a successful year making the 15U State Team and was part of the Hawks 16U Development Squad and joins fellow squad members Daria Bannister and defender Lauren Reid in their first state league season. Halle Coniston who is also a first year player and returning Hawk defender Elena Gibbons will add depth to this talented lineup.

Hawks 19U Coach Kellie Tahiri is excited to have another opportunity to work with this age group and is confident they will develop into a strong and dynamic team.

The Clubs AGM will be held on Monday 9 November at the Uni Clubrooms at 6pm for anyone interested in being a part of the Northern Hawks Netball Club in 2016.
